Google Ads has announced that the <\/span>“average position”<\/i><\/b> metric will no longer be compatible as of September.\u00a0<\/span>After having been a Google<\/strong>\u00a0for almost a decade, I can only imagine the concern that the <\/span>Google Ads<\/b> marketing;\u00a0<\/b><\/a>team must have felt before making this announcement.\u00a0<\/span>With the almost constant change that is part of <\/span>Google Ads<\/b><\/a>, any update could trigger a fire storm in the <\/span>advertising community.<\/b><\/p>\n

The removal of one of the oldest metrics certainly seems to have been badly received.\u00a0<\/b>But it turns out that most advertisers agree with the announced change; especially in light of some of the <\/span>new position metrics<\/b> that <\/span>Google<\/b> has introduced to replace the average position.\u00a0<\/span>Here’s how the new <\/span>“top”<\/b> and <\/span>“top top”<\/b> metrics can do a better job than the average position it could have when guiding advertisers to optimize their <\/span>PPC<\/a> accounts.<\/b><\/p>\n

Optimize Google Ads; Metrics that replace the middle position<\/b><\/em><\/h2>\n

First, here are the Google tools<\/strong> that you introduced last year that you believe can help advertisers<\/a> better understand how their ads are behaving; and are therefore considered the replacement for the average position metric that is being removed.<\/p>\n

  • “Print. (Abs. Top)% ” : the percentage of received prints that were at the top of the page<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • “Print. (Top)% ” : the percentage of received prints that exceeded the <\/span>organic results.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Metrics to optimize<\/b><\/h4>\n
