A lot of money is being invested in the promotion of Spotlight, the new Snapchat feature that seeks with an investment of one million dollars a day to encourage users to send their best content using the new mode.

Spotlight is described as Snapchat’s answer to TikTok, as it allows users to create similar types of content.

With Spotlight, users can create short videos up to 60 seconds long and edit them with creative tools such as

  • Captions
  • Licensed Music
  • Original sound recordings
  • Augmented Reality Filters (called Lenses)
  • GIFs
  • Hashtags

Snapchat’s new feature, “Spotlight”, is so called because it is designed to highlight the entertainment videos of all users; no matter how many followers or how influential they are.

Spotlight will also highlight users’ content, whether they have a public profile or not. Snapchat says in an ad:

“It’s a fair and fun place for Snapchat users to share their best photos and see the perspectives of the entire Snapchat community.

To encourage use of its new feature, Snapchat is paying users a $1 million fee each day for the best content.

How do I make a Spotlight?

Users can submit content to Spotlight by creating a Snap as usual.

Then, at the top of the “Send To” screen, there is a new option to select Spotlight.

From there, click the Send button in the lower right corner and the content will be sent.

Users have the option to add themes to their Snap before submitting it to Spotlight, which is recommended so that it can be seen by people interested in that theme.

How does the Snapchat curator highlight content?

Snapchat publishes submitted content in a new section dedicated to Spotlight videos. Content is published based on individual user preferences.

“We focus on serving the right Snaps to the right person at the right time. We do this by trying to understand their personal preferences.

The Snapchat algorithm also takes into account the following factors in curing the content:

  • Time of observation
  • Likes
  • Actions
  • Bounce rate

Before content is released in the new Snapchat feature, it is reviewed by moderators to ensure that it is appropriate and entertaining.

Snapchat emphasizes that Spotlight is an entertainment platform and not a place for news or overly political content.

How do I make money from Spotlight content?

Whether you make money with a presentation of the new Snapchat feature is determined by a proprietary formula based on the number of unique views you receive compared to other content presented that day.

Snapchat says that it is actively monitoring to ensure that visit counts are not artificially inflated.

Earnings will be paid to users every day and Snapchat will send a direct message to notify people that they have been awarded a share of the money.

Spotlight is spreading slowly and is available in the following countries first:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Denmark
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Sweden
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

Snapchat will pay $1 million per day from now until the end of 2020. And maybe even longer, the company says.
